What the heck is going on?

Two weeks ago Thai Nakorn burned to a pile of ashes. Then ChristianZ reports Cathay Newport closes, and Chubbypanda witnesses Red Onion's final night. Now the same week that Rasa Malaysia breaks the news that New Shanghai is going to fold, Professor Salt says that Crescent City has shuttered its doors.

Today, I find out that Farmer Boys in Tustin is history as well. All the signs ripped from the exterior walls. There's a big crane poised to install a new one for a new place.

Yes, it was part of an inland empire chain, but its Fish and Fries were the best around, offered at an affordable price point. Breakfast there was always a treat: crisp hash browns, crispier bacon, and eggs exactly as you ask.

What's next?

Bloody hell. Seems a bad month for Orange County restaurants all around. Then again, given how hard the food industry is, maybe we just happen to be noticing the closures more.

Oh, that sucks. I like Farmer's fish and chips too. And the gyros with the soft flatbread. And the gigantic fried zucchini.

I do think though that we notice food closures more than the average person. Or we notice one, but since we're all connected, it appears like more because we tell each other.

there's another farmer boy's on 17th and the 55 freeway in Santa Ana.

New Shanghai's boss told me that he is selling the restaurant but he is taking the chefs with him. He said the place should be reopen as another Shanghai restaurants...and that the transaction would take a few months to complete. So, we still have some time.

I knew that that location for Farmer Boy's wouldn't make it when it went in. It was just to close to the 17th and Tustin location, and not in a
good retail area. I'm amazed the
Mickey D's makes it nearby.

Another one to add on your closed
list is Shakey's Pizza in Tustin.
I think something new has opened
already.

Very sad to hear about Cathay Newport... absolutely loved that place. :(
